Bath

A World Heritage site, Bath (Roman name Aquae Sulis) was first settled in the Celtic period when people were attracted to the natural hot springs, which were later exploited in spectacular fashion by the Romans who arrived in Britain in the 1st Century AD.

In the 10th Century the first King of all England was crowned on the site of Bath Abbey which was later built in its present form in the 16th Century.

Less important in medieval times, Bath once again came to prominence as a fashionable Spa in the 18th Century when Wood the elder and his later his son built the famous Royal Crescent, Queens Square and Circus.

In addition to it's superb architecture, museums and galleries, Bath has an excellent shopping centre, a multitude of high quality restaurants, and the Theatre Royal shows many plays from London's West End. For the sporting enthusiast Bath Rugby Club is one of the premier teams in England and can be seen at the very centre of the city at the Recreation Ground.

The city is surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are a multitude of historic houses and attractions for you to enjoy.

Things to do during your stay: Enjoy the Bath Festival ¦ Look for Ghosts ¦ Take a Boat Trip on the River Avon, Take a Balloon Flight over the City  and opening soon is the new Thermae Spa where you can enjoy the waters from the hot springs.
